How To Use This Directory: There are two ways to use this directory. The top portion of the directory links to the bigger campus organization web pages, each of which gives information about clubs specific to that organization. So, if you are a med student looking for ways to get involved, you could click on the "Medical Student Polity" link in the upper part of the page. However, if you are a student who really likes music, you could click on the "Music" link in the lower portion of the page, where clubs are listed by category. The category section lists involvement opportunities and activities that can be found within any of the bigger umbrella organizations. Use whichever method suits you!

The organizations and their acronyms are listed below, along with a link to their clubs page (if applicable). More information about each organization can be found under the "Student Government" category below.

In this section, each category in this directory has the information listed in alphabetical order. The sponsor of the club or organization follows the title in parenthesis, for example: Amnesty International (SA). This means Amnesty International is run through the Undergraduate Student Association or SA.

Tips to becoming involved

Think about what you are interested in. What do you really love to do?

• Think about the things you were involved in during high school. If you loved something then, chances are good that you would still love it now!
• If you weren't very involved in high school, or if you want to just try something completely new, go for it! Getting involved in something that you've never done before is a great way to meet new people and have some unforgettable experiences.
• Consider clubs related to your major, but also try to explore clubs outside of your major.
• Don't forget… You can get involved at ANY point during your time at UB. Don't limit your new experiences to your freshman year! Try something new every year or even every semester.

Find out all the information:

• Check out 350 Student Union, the Undergraduate Student Association office, to find out information on clubs and organizations.
• Watch bulletin boards for new events, pick up a copy of Visions , and check The Spectrum for information on meetings and events on campus.
• Go to a meeting of a club or organization that is different from anything you have ever been involved with before to explore something new and exciting.
• Go to different events on campus sponsored by a club you are interested in and see if it is something you would enjoy becoming involved with.
• Volunteer to help out at events you are interested in. Visiting the Office of Student Life in room 150 of the Student Union is a good way to check out upcoming campus-wide events.
• Try to meet one on one with a current club member to see if the club is something you would enjoy. Each club should have a president or other E-board members that you can contact.
• If you are not comfortable going alone to an event or meeting, go with a friend, but always try to challenge yourself to explore new things on your own.

Time Management:

• Don't get involved in so many things that you spread yourself thin; use time management skills. You can go to the Center for Student Leadership & Community Engagement (235 Student Union, 645-6469), Counseling Services (120 Richmond, 645-2720), Wellness Education Services (114 Student Union, 645-2837), or speak to your academic advisor for tips on time management.
• Remember that it's ok to take things slowly as you settle into life as a college student, because you don't want to become overburdened right away.
• Limit the amount of hours you work when you first get to UB, because you never know what to expect from classes and the demands of college life. It is suggested to try not to work more than ten hours per week your first semester.

Starting Your Own Club

If you've looked all through the clubs and organizations listed in the Student Involvement Directory and STILL haven't found the one thing that really gets you excited, fear not! Put your ideas and suggestions in writing and head to your student government office to start a new club or organization. In most cases, you only need yourself plus some committed friends to create a new and exciting club on campus.
